For as long as I can remember, people have been telling me their stories, a gift for which I am always grateful. In listening, I have learned that although we are all beautifully unique, we are also more similar than we are different. I’ve also discovered that when we can find the courage to be vulnerable, to tell our stories with an open heart, we realize that we are all having a human experience and that we are not alone.
My twenty years of teaching children and working with families in Canada and around the world taught me new ways of knowing and how to see life from many perspectives. I transitioned from a teaching role to a counselling role after earning my Master of Education (Counselling) degree at Acadia University. I am currently in good standing as a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, and a Registered Counselling Therapist (RCT) with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists.
I use an Integrated approach to counselling, which means that I draw on therapeutic strategies from a wide range of counselling practices to meet the unique needs of each individual that I work with. As a former high school Art teacher, using an art-based approach to therapy comes naturally to me. Mindfulness is an important part of my practice, and I use trauma-informed and nature-based therapies with clients, when appropriate.
My dog, Finnegan, is still a puppy, but I will be training him to be an Emotional Support Animal as he gets older. For now, if you'd like to meet him at the end of our session, he would love that!
When I’m not with clients, I’m usually trying a new art project, reading, playing in the garden with Finnegan, hiking in the woods, or exploring Nova Scotia's beautiful coastline.
